When we worship God, we exalt Him for who He is. Worship belongs only to God.
To worship God means to ascribe worth or value or to count worthy. When we worship God, we acknowledge that He is worthy; we acknowledge who He is and what He is.

The apostle Paul cried out “thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure, they are and were created”. (Rev 4:11).

Worship involves sacrificial giving (Gen. 22)

After promising Abraham a son (born in his old age), God told him to go the land of Moriah and offer Isaac as a burnt offering. Imagine the agony of spirit this must have caused Abraham. To think of giving up what was the most precious thing in his life, but he obeyed God’s command and journeyed with Isaac to the place of sacrifice.

In Gen. 22:5, while some distance away, Abraham said to his servants, “I and the lad will go yonder and worship”. While at the altar of worship, God intervened. (Gen. 22:8 & 14).

Worship will cost you something; it involves sacrifice, giving something of great value to God. The bible says in I Chron. 16:29, “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name: bring an offering, and come before Him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness”. When the wise men met with Jesus, they fell down and worshipped Him; then they presented him with treasures. (Matt. 2:11).

What will it cost you to worship God

Probably your most precious and treasured possession. Mary worshipped God with her most precious ointment and changed the atmosphere.  (Mk 14:3-9, John 12:3-7). Certainly God will require that you lay on the altar anything that is more important to you than He is. That is, anything that comes between you and God.

Ye worship ye know not what (John 4:22 – 23)

To be a true worshipper, you must worship God in truth and Spirit. God is a Spirit and is everywhere. Learn to speak to him consistently. This acknowledges His presence, and that in itself is a form of worship to God. Tell him “I sure love and appreciate you, I’m glad you are with me”. As you worship him in Spirit and truth, God will share things with you that would change your life.

Singing songs to him regularly quickens you of God’s presence.  Too many worship God with their lips while their heart is far from God. When you truly worship in spirit and in truth, you will know.

When was the last time you truly worshipped God and was lost in His presence with tears flowing down your cheeks and yet you are not able to control yourself? Now is the time to give him real worship for the Father seeketh such real worshippers.

Fall down on your face and worship Him. Give Him all the glory.
