Secondary schools in Delta State will kick off the Governor’s Cup in two weeks.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan so directed yesterday in Asaba  while receiving report from Professor Moboghare committee he set up  in April to revive football in secondary schools in Delta State.

”Sports in Nigeria has many challenges now and the only way to revive it and begin to excel in it is to take it back  to our schools which are fertile grounds  to groom potentials,” Governor Uduaghan said,  adding “we really want to drive sports at the grassroots in Delta.”

He said that Delta will also begin track and field in schools in Delta State in a later date..

”We are failing in  sports  because sports died in our schools. If we mean well for sports in Nigeria the schools must return as breeding grounds for sports development,” Uduaghan said adding that “ this competition must start in two weeks and I will attend the opening match.”

Champions of the Governor’s Cup will win a Bus, N2m and will also be sponsored to  a youth competition abroad foreign.
