A founding member of Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC),in Ebonyi state ,Chief Nelson Ahamefula Akuma has described the rumour making the round that he has left Nigeria Democratic Congress as a cheap propaganda.

Speaking in an interview, Akuma who participated in the senatorial primary election in Ebonyi south senatorial zone said that NDC is a party that he put his soul, body and resources in and as such there is no way he would just wake up one morning and abandon the house that he helped to build.

According to him, there are some elements in the party in Ebonyi State who don’t want NDC to be competitive enough to win election in the state.

“Those who claimed that I have left NDC to another party are mischief makers. If in doubt, let them prove it. People should not be misinformed by way of the new party’s identity card, new party’s membership register or even logo that was found in my possession. Akuma declared

Speaking further, he said that when the Appeal Committee that was set up by the party to look at the complaints of the aspirants wrote a report, they were not happy because it was not in their favour.

“I am one of the founding members and also one of the major financiers of Nigeria Democratic Congress in Ebonyi State. I was formerly in African Democratic Congress(ADC), but when Peter Obi left to NDC I went with him. I was also one of the three people that bought expression of interest forms for Ebonyi South senatorial zone. When it was the time of screening of aspirants, we went for that and during the screening nobody agreed to step down for the other, so we had to go for primary. On the day of the primary, a lot of things happened.

“After the primary election, I had to petition the Appeal Committee set up by the party with the evidence of what happened at the venue of the primary. The Appeal Committee looked at the merit of my claims and wrote a report but one of leaders of the party in the state rejected it, insisting that he is the leader of the party in Ebonyi State by virtue of being a former top political office holder and as such he must have his way. And it stands that NDC is yet to produce Senator candidate from his zone.

“Coming to my own senatorial zone which has five local government areas, the leader picked the senatorial and House of Representatives candidate from one local, government, that is Onicha Local government area. I have to oppose the decision because it is not politically wise in a senatorial zone with five local government area, you picked two candidates from one, leaving Ohaozara, which is the epicenter of politics in Ebonyi state having produced two governors and three ministers. There is no fairness and inclusiveness.

“Like I said I am one the founders and also a major financier of the party in the state. As if that is not enough, when some executives of the party left to PDP as a result of the leader’s high handedness, they came again that I was the one that instructed them to leave NDC. But those who left were adults and took their own decision. How can I tell people to leave NDC while I remain in the party, does not make sense?

“Upon all the things that was thrown at me, I am still in NDC. It is the party that I help to build. The party has constituted a reconciliation committee which is currently sitting, so we are waiting for their resolution and report. I have absolute confidence in the reconciliation committee and I know that at the end of the day, justice will be done. However, it is very unfortunate that the party has not called for any meeting since the end of the primary. May be the executive are afraid of the reaction of the party stakeholders.
