ASABA – URHOBO Progress Union, UPU, Youth Wing has hailed the recognition of Princess Ziregbe Eshemitan as Overall Best Graduating Student in Medicine at the University of Calabar, UNICAL, Cross River State.

Dr. Eshemitan, daughter of His Royal Majesty Orefe III, Uku Oghara Na’Me, Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, Delta State, received her honours for the feat during UNICAL’s 56th Physicians’ Oath-Taking Ceremony and Sponsio Academica after topping her class in the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS, programme.

She was decorated with the Provost’s Prize as Overall Best Graduating Student in Medicine and honoured with the Dr. Obal Otu Prize for Best Graduating Student in Internal Medicine with Distinction, cementing her legacy among the institution’s most exceptional graduates.

Reacting to the outstanding performance, UPU Youth Wing Legal Adviser and the awardee’s younger sister, Princess Omeyoma Eshemitan, described Dr. Eshemitan’s success as a moment of immense pride for the Eshemitan Royal Family, Oghara Kingdom, and Delta State at large.

“This remarkable achievement did not come by chance. It is the result of hard work, perseverance, determination, and countless hours of study.

“Ziregbe has always demonstrated exceptional focus and passion for excellence. Today’s recognition is a testament to those qualities,” she said.

Princess Omeyoma noted her sister’s academic feat makes her a role model who will inspire drive for excellence among younger scholars, particularly young women across Nigeria.

“As a family, we are proud of her accomplishments and grateful to God for this milestone. I have no doubt she will continue to excel and positively impact lives through her chosen profession,” she added.

In the valedictory speech on behalf of the graduating medical class, Dr. Eshemitan encouraged her colleagues to be committed to professionalism, ethics, compassion, and excellence as they advance their careers.

The induction ceremony was attended by her father, the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, Her Royal Majesty Iyobo Eshemitan, traditional chiefs, friends, and associates, among other guests.
