Man killed in renewed IPOB attacks in Enugu

The last may not have been heard of the gale of attacks and killing in Ezike community in Igbo-Eze local government area of Enugu State, as a daredevil criminal gang operating under the aegis of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB struck again on Wednesday, December 27, 2025 throwing the hitherto peaceful community into grief.

This time around a young man lay lifeless after the roaring gunfire that shook the village to its very foundation subsided.

He was identified as Valentine Ossai, whose father Alfred Ossai had tragically lost his life in a similar attack some few months ago when the felons had invaded on a vengeful mission to eliminate alleged saboteurs of the Biafra cause.

One of those marked for elimination concerned residents, was Chinedu Ossai, and some other youths whom the IPOB gang accused of leaking information about their operation in that axis of the South East State of Enugu.

Chinedu had miraculously escaped attempts to forcibly initiate him and some other youths from the locality, leading to the exposure of the practices of forced recruitment of innocent young persons into the criminal gan,g which had become commonplace.

Residents claimed that Valentine, who just arrived in the village to celebrate Christmas with his family members, was killed in a targeted attack that went awry as he was allegedly mistaken for Chinedu Ossai his elder half-brother, who has been on the gang’s wanted list.

When our correspondent visited the community on Boxing Day, the community was a ghost of its former self as many persons deserted their home for fear of being attacked or arrested by the police who had taken positions to avert further attacks while investigations into the killing commenced.

The police authorities have however vowed to bring perpetrators of violent attacks in the region to justice but residents believe they only do little while the community bears the brunt of the attacks.
