A youth group, Kebbi Progressive Youths (KEPYO), has warned residents of Kebbi State to be wary of what it described as fraudulent politicians and individuals allegedly tainted by corruption as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify.

Addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the group’s spokesperson, Comrade Usman Musa, said Kebbi State deserves leaders of integrity, competence and a clear developmental vision, rather than politicians seeking public office to escape accountability.

Musa said the warning became necessary in view of corruption allegations trailing some former public office holders, stressing that the people of Kebbi must not allow desperate political actors to mortgage the state’s future in their bid for political relevance.

According to him, political desperation often drives some politicians to deploy propaganda, inducements and emotional appeals to mask what he described as poor records in public service.

He urged youths, community leaders and other stakeholders to critically assess the antecedents of aspirants and resist attempts to recycle failed leadership models or individuals carrying unresolved allegations of corruption.

KEPYO also called on political parties to place premium on credibility and competence in their candidate selection processes, noting that the 2027 elections should be anchored on accountability, good governance and sustainable development.

The group added that the current leadership trajectory in the state should be sustained and strengthened in the overall interest of Kebbi people.
