Mubi- The Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has suspended its four-week-old strike.

The  union on Feb. 10 embarked on an indefinite strike over disagreements with the polytechnic’s management.

A statement signed by Mr Ahmed Abdulrashid, the Publicity Secretary of the Union, called on  members of the union to resume work on Monday, March 12.

It said that the development followed series of meetings held between the union and representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

The union had accused the institution’s management of inability to implement the agreement reached between the two parties in November, 2011.

The striking teachers were demanding for the full implementation of the agreement, which sought for the review of certain decisions taken by the management between 2007 and 2011.

Some of the issues included the review of the appointment of third class degree holders into academic positions, appointment of heads of departments without recourse to academic competence and payment of 7 per cent academic allowance.

The union also demanded for the effective utilisation of the ETF training fund, payment of the first 28 days allowance to newly recruited staff and proper promotion of deserving lecturers.

ASUP further demanded the full protection of its members, who were allegedly victimised for partaking in the previous strikes. (NAN)
