ABUJA – Theresa Ushie, the newly elected first female chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area (LGA) in Cross River State, has reiterated her commitment to enhancing healthcare access for the community.

This pledge was made during a report-sharing and accountability event, where she provided updates on a comprehensive medical outreach held at the Primary Health Care Centre in Model Abuochiche, Bekwarra.

The medical outreach, which served as a significant part of Ushie’s ongoing health initiatives, offered a range of free services aimed at addressing the health needs of the community. These included general medical consultations, child health promotion, screenings for diabetes and hypertension, and specialized counseling on female reproductive health.

Additionally, the outreach provided education on hand and dental hygiene, breast health, and awareness campaigns on MPOX and cancer control. Emergency clinic services were also offered to cater to immediate health concerns.

The event also featured the distribution of free medications, mosquito nets to combat malaria, and eye care services, including prescription glasses.

The collaboration with the Cross River State Ministry of Health, the General Hospital in Bekwarra, and the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) ensured a well-rounded approach to community healthcare.

As part of her ongoing commitment to community health, Ushie emphasized her determination to use her new office to continue these initiatives and expand their reach.

A long-time advocate for healthcare improvements in the region, she expressed that this outreach was just the beginning, and that her office would work to bring even more healthcare services to the people of Bekwarra.

“This outreach is just one of many efforts to ensure our people receive the medical attention they deserve. As Chairman, I will leverage the platform and resources to do even more,” Ushie stated.
