The Old Boys Association of Pilgrim Baptist Grammar School (PBGS) Issele-Uku, Delta State, Class of 2002, also known as Great O2 Men, has marked the 2nd edition of a scholarship award to deserving students of their alma mater.

Speaking on the occasion, the President of the Association, Mr Aniekwe Kelvin, said it was one way of giving back to the institution that afforded them the opportunity to be groomed early in life.

Mr Aniekwe pointed out that the scholarship was not just financial aid, but an investment in the potential and promise of brilliant minds that walk the corridors, adding that as alumni they needed to bridge the gap and support the aspirations of the next generation.

He stated that the Great 02 Men believed in the power of education to transform lives and were committed to making the transformation accessible to all regardless of their financial status.

The President expressed gratitude to members of the Association at home and in the diaspora who had contributed to the scholarship scheme.

Also speaking, a member of the group, Mr.Ugochukwu Anyasi, advised the current students of the school against involvement in drug abuse, cultism and other social vices, which he said could lead to physical and mental health challenges, as well as shatter their dreams and aspirations.

For his part, Hon. Nicholas Okemefuna Abolo, a Councilor in Aniocha North Local Government and Deputy Leader of the Council’s Legislative Arm, said education remained the cornerstone of progress, a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change, urging the students to discountenance the erroneous notion that education is a scam.

In his welcome address, the Principal of the school, Mr.Duke Ojuyenum, thanked the old boys and PTA for their assistance to the school, but pointed out that the school needed Physics, Mathematics and Agricultural Science teachers, as well as electricity and a mower, which the old boys promised to provide to ease cutting of grass.

The event featured the presentation of scholarships to 100 students, prizes to four most committed teachers and youth corps members serving in the school, as well as donation of sporting equipment.
