OVERWHELMED General Manager of Heartland FC, Fan Ndubuoke is yet to come to terms with the club’s victory over hotshot Enyimba in the Federation Cup on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Heartland pipped the CAF Champions League semi finalists, Enyimba 1-0 not only to lift the trophy but also break a-23-year old jinx of not winning the trophy.

A day after their historic victory, Ndubuoke, former SWAN President, former Sports Editor, COJA chief dedicated Heartland’s feat to “Journalists”. “This victory is my victory. It is your victory. It is victory for all Nigerian Journalists”, Ndubuoke said at the Sportshaq where they presented the trophy to a cocktail of Nigerian journalists.

“Many people asked what can a journalist do other than to write and criticize when I was appointed as General Manager of Heartland. This victory goes to show them what a journalist can do. And there are still many things to do. I covered four World Cups and four Olympics. I know about sports administration. Today, Heartland is blazing the trail”.

Still looking back, Ndubuoke recalled when many cast aspersions on him for refusing to be fetish. They wanted him to bury goats expecting that such practice would turn around their fortunes. “They almost crucified me for not following the old order by burying goats to make Heartland win.

I wept. But I challenged God and today God has proved that evil can never triumph over good”, the former board member of NFA noted.
