WARRI—A combined team of the Joint Task Force, JTF, on the Niger Delta and Police were deployed in Ekpan, Delta State, on Tuesday, following resumption of fresh violence between warring factions in the community.
Reports said that the rival groups fired several gun shots, forcing traders to lock up their shops and flee for safety.
It was not known whether there was any casualty but the leadership tussle in the community has been on for years without any clear solution in sight.
The state government waded into the matter recently but the combatants were not ready to yield grounds.
Divisional Police Officer, DPO, for Ekpan Police Station, Mr Mohammed Muazu confirmed to Vanguard, when contacted, yesterday, that he requested the JTF to join in quelling the skirmish.
As at 4.30 pm, yesterday, he confirmed that the situation was under control, adding that he has no details of the casualty, if any.
