Osun Christian, cultural leaders pledge action against gender-based violence

Christian and cultural leaders in Osun state have pledged to use their roles and positions to contribute towards efforts to ensure an end to gender-based violence in the state.


This commitment was made at a dialogue convened by HACEY, a social development organization and Women’s Aid Collective, WACOL, in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital.


This dialogue brought together Christian leaders, cultural leaders, women leaders, and government representatives to reflect on the realities of gender-based violence in Nigerian communities and secure visible leadership commitments to strengthen prevention and response.


In her welcome address, the program manager at HACEY, Olubukola Oluwatobiloba, said the event was aimed at fostering collaboration to end gender based violence.


On her part, a representative of the ministry of women affairs said the state government has put in place several measures and remains committed to ending the menace.


While speaking, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Osun State, Reverend Dr John Adeleke, and the Traditional Prime Minister of Osogbo, High Chief Azeez Abayomi, pledged to use their roles to promote dignity, justice, and accountability.


They also called on government institutions to do more to uphold the law.


The dialogue also featured Panel discussions on safer faith spaces, cultural leadership, and community protection.
