House of Representatives aspirant and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Barrister Balarabe Abiodun Akinwumi, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking at the defection ceremony in Akure, Akinwumi who is aspiring to represent Akure Federal constituency,cited crisis within the opposition party
Akinwumi however, assured party faithful and his supporters of his commitment and continued engagement with the grassroots.
He had earlier in the day, formally received his ADC membership card at his Ijomu/Obanla Council Ward,
While describing the ADC as the “voice of the voiceless,” he was optimistic that the ADC was determined to rescue Ondo State and Nigeria from what he termed the dictatorial administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The aspirant accused the ruling party of inflicting hardship on Nigerians, stressing that the time had come for voters to chart a new course by voting it out of power.
While welcoming the new entrant, the Ondo State Chairman of the ADC, Asiwaju Ayowole Ademoyegun, lauded Akinwumi for what he described as a bold and courageous decision.
Ademoyegun assured him and other defectors of equal opportunities and full integration within the party’s structure.
He said Akinwumi’s defection had added significance to the event and strengthened the party ahead of future political contests.
The party’s chairman urged ADC members across the state to intensify mobilisation efforts in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Speakers at the ceremony expressed confidence in the capacity of the ADC to displace the ruling party at both state and national levels.
They declared the party’s readiness to take over governance in the country in 2027.
