The wife of the Governor of Ondo State, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to prioritising education, describing it as a key pillar for the future development of the state.
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa gave the assurance while hosting children to a colourful Christmas party at the Government House Grounds in Akure, the state capital.
She said Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa places strong emphasis on children’s education, adding that parents, particularly mothers, have a responsibility to ensure their children are properly educated.
The governor’s wife also urged parents to give adequate attention to their children, especially during the festive season, and cautioned against allowing them to seek guidance from strangers.
“Please give your children attention. Always listen to them and make time for them so that they will not go out to seek advice from strangers,” she said.
She further encouraged parents to take the education of their children seriously, noting that they are the future leaders of the state and the country.
“Do not listen to those who do not see the importance of education. Our governor is laying emphasis on children’s education, and we as mothers must ensure our children are educated,” she added.
According to her, the Christmas party was organised to enable children to relax, have fun and interact with one another during the yuletide.
“This Christmas party is organised for our children to enjoy themselves and interact. Let them take part in all the activities provided for them,” she said.
The event was organised by the Ondo State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa, flanked by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Bosede Adelami, and wives of other political office holders, led by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Oluwaseun Osamaye, went round to greet the children seated under various canopies.
The children were presented with gifts including Christmas hats, Santa Claus caps, school bags and other items.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Osamaye, said the party was organised to create an opportunity for children, including those from underprivileged backgrounds, to interact with their peers.
She said the initiative was aimed at promoting social interaction, friendship and inclusion among children.
According to her, the Christmas party provided a platform for children to interact with the wife of the governor and build social connections in a relaxed environment.
Osamaye added that the provision of gifts was intended to make the celebration memorable and to demonstrate the state government’s commitment to the welfare, happiness and security of children in Ondo State.
She noted that the children actively participated in the activities and expressed optimism that they would look forward to future editions of the Christmas celebration.
