ABUJA — In a historic gathering of Africa’s most influential leaders and change-makers, EUR ING Dr. Chinedu Ogwus, a globally respected engineer and community development advocate, has been named one of the 100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa for 2025.
Themed ‘1Honouring Those Who Lead, Innovate, and Transform Africa,’ the event brings together leaders from various sectors; public service, private enterprise, philanthropy, sports, and the arts —who have shown exceptional dedication to peacebuilding, sustainable development, and African unity.
Currently Head of Purchasing for Engineering, Construction, and Projects, he is also the Founder and President of the Ogwus Youth Empowerment and Community Development Organization (OYEDCO) in Nigeria. Through his grassroots initiatives and youth-focused programs, he has empowered thousands in underserved communities by creating jobs, building resilience, and encouraging peace and civic responsibility.
At the summit, he will deliver a keynote speech titled: ‘Maximising Energy Transition in Africa’s Oil and Gas Regions: A Leadership Framework for Governance, Investment, and Sustainable Development.’ His address will highlight strategies for a fair and balanced energy transition in Africa.
Dr. Ogwus will join other African trailblazers at the event, including Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State; Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior Pastor of COZA Global; Femi Otedola, renowned businessman; Governor Umar Namadi, Executive Governor of Jigawa State; Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO); Burna Boy, Grammy Award-winning artist; Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, philanthropist and Chairman of Heirs Holdings; Victor Osimhen, football star and humanitarian; Nduka Obaigbena, media mogul and Chairman of THISDAY/ARISE; Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Access Holdings; Hajiya Zainab Nasir-Idris, First Lady of Kebbi State; and Dr. Huriyya Dauda-Lawal, First Lady of Zamfara State.
His inclusion in this esteemed group reflects his dedication to youth empowerment, engineering excellence, and peacebuilding across Africa.
Speaking to journalists, he stated: “To be recognised on the same platform as such iconic leaders and changemakers is a profound honour. It reinforces the belief that grassroots impact and global relevance are not mutually exclusive. Peace is the foundation of development, and our commitment must remain unwavering.”
The summit will feature strategic discussions, keynote speeches, innovation showcases, and networking opportunities to advance Africa’s peace agenda in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Organised by DAVDAN PEACE, the event celebrates Africans who are shaping the continent’s future through courage, compassion, and leadership.
A Chartered Engineer, peace advocate, and development leader, Dr. Ogwus is known for his work in engineering, procurement, and social impact. Through OYEDCO, he has led community programs in Nigeria focused on youth empowerment, economic inclusion, and conflict resolution.
As the summit approaches, his recognition as one of Africa’s most notable peace icons highlights the growing influence of grassroots leadership in shaping the continent’s future. His keynote will contribute vital insights into sustainable energy and inclusive governance; key to Africa’s long-term peace and prosperity.

This prestigious award will be presented during the summit, which takes place from 4th to 6th July 2025 at the iconic Marriott Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda.
