•He has to prove bribery allegation against us
ABUJA — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arrested the controversial social media personality Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, in Lagos.
Bobrisky was taken into custody at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight to London. Immigration officers removed him from the flight late Thursday night.
According to a highly placed EFCC source, Bobrisky’s arrest was made on Thursday night in response to his allegations against the commission.
The source, who spoke on Friday, revealed that Bobrisky was re-arrested for failing to honor multiple invitations regarding allegations of bribery and corruption against the EFCC.
These allegations led the EFCC to establish a committee to investigate the claims, which stated that Bobrisky had bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. The commission has denied these allegations and indicated that Bobrisky could face new charges for providing false information.
The source stated, “We have arrested him in Lagos today and will be flown to Abuja. He accused us of bribery and corruption; we invited him several times, but he did not show up.
“He who alleges must be prepared to prove their claims. Those allegations are too serious to allow to slide.
“Additionally, remember that he has also refused to appear before the National Assembly regarding this matter. We had no choice but to apprehend him so that he can substantiate his claims, and that is what we have done.”
Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest but declined to provide further comment.
Bobrisky previously posted on his Instagram page, alleging that EFCC operatives had arrested him and that he sustained injuries during an altercation with immigration officers.
This re-arrest follows the EFCC’s warning that Bobrisky would face charges for providing false information if his allegations were proven to be unfounded.
