President of Police Officer’s Wives Association, POWA, Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, has empowered Port Authority (Western) Police Command officers’ wives with equipment to develop entrepreneurial skills in different vocations.

Equipments such as grinding machines; hair drier; sewing machines; and deep freezers were distributed.
This was done with the help of POWA Chairperson of the Command, Mrs. Abiola Ishola, to build capacity that would enhance their contribution to immediate family needs.

In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Port Authority Police (Western) Command, Apapa, Lagos, ASP Isaac Hundeyin, said that the initiative restated Egbetokun’s sustained resolve to encourage wives of police officers to develop entrepreneurial skills.

However, she was represented by the Chairperson, Zone 2 Police Command POWA, Mrs. Gloria Durosimi.
In a welcome address, Ishola who is the chief host, revealed that the POWA secretariat at the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command was inaugurated in November 2023, upon her husband’s assumption in office.

She said it was no longer fashionable for wives of police officers to sit at home as full housewives without having a skill that will help them earn a living.

She said: “Hence the need for this empowerment scheme under the directive and approval of the POWA President.”

Others in attendance include: the Lagos State Police Command POWA chairperson, Mrs. Adekemi Fayoade, POWA members, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western), Command CP Olanrewaju Ishola and his management team.

CP Ishola appreciated all wives of Police Officers for their unwavering support to their husbands, adding that such support was important to encourage police officers to legitimately discharge their duties while also thanking the wife of the Inspector-General of Police for conceiving and executing the idea of empowering wives of Police Officers.

Take aways from the event was cultural displays from various ethnic groups to entertain guests and a short talk on the effects of drug abuse anchored by Chief Superintendent of Narcotics, Bola Ojeleye, from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

In a vote of thanks, Fayoade commended the gesture.
