Light-skinned actress cum movie producer, Uchenna Nnanna-Maduka has advocated the need for the preservation of our indigenous languages, warning that if nothing is done to reverse the trend, the languages would go into oblivion in no distant time.
The actress gave this warning, while in a chat with our reporter at an event during the week in Lagos. She cited Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portuguese professional footballer, whose popularity is not diminished because he doesn’t speak English. She insists that everyone must be involved in the promotion and preservation of our indigenous languages.

According to her, “We must strive to preserve our cultural heritage, stand up and say this is who we are.”
The mother of two, whose language movie, “Nneka” won the Best Indigenous Movie at the AMVCA 2022, however, called on film makers to make more indigenous movies to promote our local languages even though the project does not bring immediate return on investment.
“We have to welcome our culture and stand up and say this is who we are. If we don’t take time, our culture, tradition and local languages will go into oblivion,” the actress stated.
