The just concluded television reality show, Big Brother Naija, and the previous ones have a great deal of lessons to teach us all Nigerians. We should not be quick to condemn the housemates as has always been the case on account of a few flaws.
The irony is that those who condemn the Big Brother Naija show do heinous things far more than what they condemn about the show in their private and secret lives. Truth be said, the show has always portrayed integrity in their affairs all through the duration.
They make sure that the housemates voted for by the public are the actual winners, as against the political scenario where people are always in the habit of wanting to manipulate and subvert the will of the people during elections. Yes, critics should hide their faces in shame and stop castigating the BBN show, which has shown example and the way in making sure that the wish of the masses counts.
The lecturers, employers of labour, top management personnel and heads of agencies who subject their victims to all manner of vices like sex, bribery, etc, before passing exams, employment/job placement, promotion, etc, should learn from the BBN show. They conduct their affairs in a free, fair, just and transparent way to announce winners without resorting to nepotism, tribalism, favouritism and other discriminatory tendencies.
Instead of speaking against the BBN show because of a few cases of some housemates exhibiting conducts that bother on their bodies and dresses, we should be concerned about ourselves who do abominable things in the secret. We should stop attempting to remove the logs in some ones’ eyes when there are big logs in ours.
We should stop throwing stones at others when we live in glass houses. Is it not said that “those who want to go to equity must go with clean hands”. In Nigeria, we engage in all manner of corruption and cheating and still think we have moral scruples to condemn others.
Heads of government departments and agencies receive kickbacks to award contracts. Legislators engage in budget padding and embezzle money meant for constituency projects.
Financial institutions engage in roundtriping and in all kinds of financial frauds. But here you see a body (BBN crew), which has been conducting its affairs without embarking on such vices enumerated above.
Before you condemn, have you thought of all these? Do you consider how they help to bring out and develop skills in housemates and make them stars, entrepreneurs and employers of labour?
What they do is helping to create employment to grow the economy and enhance the GDP? How about entertainment? Oh you can’t beat BBN! I must confess that I stay glued to the BBN channel like most nigerians do to be entertained, to learn from the numerous tasks they engage in.
All in all, the BBN show should be applauded, emulated and encouraged by the relevant authorities. Take it or leave it, a greater number of youths and the elderly get educated watching the BBN show.
