WARRI—A South-South group has pledged support for former Vice President Abubakar Atiku’s presidential bid for 2019, describing him as the best presidential material for the election.

Making the declaration in Warri, Delta State, on the aegis of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Voluntary Political support movement, South- South, Coordinator of the body, Marcus Emsi, said Atiku was broad minded and a friend of the region.

According to him, the former Vice President was a major employer of labour in the Niger Delta region, noting that with his investment in several parts of the country he had strong value for national unity.

The group with membership drawn from civil society and other stakeholders in the region said Atiku had sterling qualities that would market him to victory in the election, saying “We are solidly behind him. He is our choice. We love him because he has all it takes to govern Nigeria.   Over the years he has created millions of jobs and employment opportunities for deserving Nigeria youths and job seekers nationwide.

“Atiku will rescue Niger Delta and Nigeria from the current hardship. We are aware that the current hardship has increased crime and divorce cases in the country. We need the restoration president Atiku to come and salvage the country.”

Professor Greg Stepehns who was chairman of the event also hailed the former Vice President, describing him as a northern with a good heart towards the Niger Delta region.
