PORT HARCOURT—Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has expressed worry over the continuous delay in the relocation of International Oil Companies, IOCs’ corporate head offices to the oil-rich Niger Delta.

IYC noted that it will not withdraw its 90 days ultimatum to the IOCs operating in the region to relocate their operational headquarters to the area, threatening a nationwide protest on the expiration of the ultimatum.

Speaking, weekend, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, IYC, led by Oweilabi Peretubo, said the ultimatum issued in July followed the directives by the then Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, that all IOCs relocate their operational headquarters to the Niger Delta.

Peretubo noted that the ultimatum was in line with the instruction of the Presidency, but expressed dissatisfaction over non-compliance.

He stressed that IYC may be forced to take other lines of action at the expiration of the 90 days ultimatum which expires in the first week of October 2017 since the directive from the presidency was being treated with levity.

Peretubo maintained that the absence of operational headquarters of the multinationals was affecting development in oil and gas producing communities, noting that graduates have remained unemployed resulting to youth restiveness in the region.
