PORT HARCOURT—Senator-designate for Rivers East senatorial district, Andrew Uchendu, has assured members of his All Progressive Congress, APC, of effective representation.
Addressing a crowd of his party members, weekend, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Uchendu thanked them for their support “while my struggle to reclaim my mandate at the election courts lasted in Abuja.”
The Appeal Court in Abuja, last week affirmed the judgment of the lower tribunal declaring him winner of Rivers East senatorial December 10, 2016 election.
If PDP had won…—Wike
Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike mourned the loss of PDP at the appeal tribunal on the Rivers East senatorial district, saying now that judgment was in favour of APC, the party (APC) had chosen to hail the judiciary.
Wike spoke during a meeting with stakeholders and leaders of his party from Okrika and Ogu-Bolo Local Government Areas of the state.
He said if the judgment had gone in favour of PDP, APC would have been shouting that the judiciary was corrupt.
His words: “Tomorrow, if we win, they will say judiciary is corrupt and send security operatives to arrest the judges.”
He noted that it was unfortunate that the tribunal allegedly relied on election result from the Police instead of the one from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He said: “I have no trouble with that, but I thought that the reverse should have been the case. It has opened our eyes ahead of 2019.”
