OWERRI—The Imo State branch of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has taken a swipe at Governor Rochas Okorocha for dissolving the state Judicial Service Commission, JSC.
In a statement by the NBA Chairman, Mr. Lawrence Nwakaete, the association not only faulted the governor’s action, but also maintained that the commission is statutorily tenured.
It said: “It is totally wrong for the governor to dissolve the commission, when its tenure has not expired. He does not have the power to do that.”
Vanguard recalls that Governor Okorocha had, last weekend, dissolved the state Judicial Service Commission.
According to a press statement by Governor Okorocha’s Principal Secretary, Dr. Paschal Obi, the non-statutory members were summarily sacked.
Meanwhile, a fresh list of non-statutory members of the commission has been sent to Imo State House of Assembly “for urgent legislative action.”
