The All Progressives Congress has slammed Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State over his widely publicized achievements during the 100 Days celebration, describing the government’s claims as a feast of corruption, falsehood and criminal conspiracy to loot the state treasury.
In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Engr. Ita Awak, the party described the government’s claim of massive project execution within 100 days of coming into power as ‘‘false, misleading and a conduit pipe for the embezzlement of public funds by the regime’’.
“One of the methods honest and responsible leaders use to give a bird’s eye view of the guiding philosophy and a clear indication of the policy thrust of their governments is by using the record of some of the cardinal projects begun within the first 100 days of their inauguration to show the populace the direction of their governments. Based on this tradition, Akwa Ibom people naturally expected the Deacon Udom Emmanuel interregnum report of his first 100 days in office to give a clear hint of what to expect in the future”, it declared .
According to the party, “In an elaborate media campaign organised to showcase the supposed “achievements” recorded within its first 100 days in office and using these as indicators of the direction of his government, Mr. Udom Emmanuel caused the Akwa Ibom State government to take six pages in some national newspapers to list what it fancied as its “superlative performance” in the last 100 days starting from May 29, 2015.
The statement reads in part, “We find it very worrisome that the Udom Emmanuel is claiming the construction of “over 80 km of roads” whereas nobody has heard, since it assumed office of the selection and engagement of consultants for the designs of the roads and bridges, the advertisement for job tendering, analysis of tender, selection and award of contract and to which firm(s) including the scope, cost and projected period of completion, the necessary budgetary adjustment in the form of a supplementary budget to take care of such projects. The APC in Akwa Ibom State is worried that the Udom Emmanuel is determinedly continuing with the Akpabio regime method of running the affairs of government with impunity and without any iota of regard or respect for due process”.
The party also faulted governments claim of the construction of new Terminal Building at the Ibom International Airport and the construction of the 2nd Runway/Taxiway as well as the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility.
“In the first instance, the warehouse-like structure that passes for the “Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility” at the airport today was built by the Godswill Akpabio administration. Although this uncompleted structure has neither been commissioned nor utilised, it has constantly featured since 2010 in the “Uncommon Transformations” TV series as one of the major achievements of the Akpabio regime”, the party stated.
The party described as deceptive, the pomp and glitz put up on Friday, 22nd May, 2015 when Mr. Godswill Akpabio, in the company of Deacon Udom Emmanuel and his Deputy, Moses Ekpo, officially commissioned and opened for public use what they called “world class” ultra-modern shopping mall. The party said it considers it both demeaning and scandalous that instead of the Udom Emmanuel probing for the reason why the “ultra-modern shopping mall” in the Tropicana has been under lock and key since its “commissioning,” there is the cheap attempt to celebrate and gleefully tout the “Ground Breaking Ceremony of Shoprite” retail chain at Ibom Tropicana as one of its “superlative achievements” in the last 100 days even when it is common knowledge that Shoprite is a multinational private sector initiative that puts up shops in cities where it is sure will provide market for its line of merchandise…
The party said the multi-billion dollars Ibaka Deep Seaport project was conceived by Obong Victor Attah as one of the means to kick-start and accelerate the industrialisation of the state and Obong Attah acquired 5,000 hectares of land spanning Mbo and Ibeno LGAs for the project.
