Ikorodu robbery: Court remands suspects in prison

Lagos—Magistrate M. O Olajunwon of an Ebute- Metta Magistrate Court sitting at Oyingbo, yesterday remanded the four members of a robbery gang that robbed two banks in Ikorodu area of Lagos on June 24, 2015.

The four, are Kowei Victor, 42; Friday Abiwa, 20; Omolaja Omoboye, 39, and Agbojule Bright 25.

The Magistrate ordered that the robbery suspects be remanded in prison custody, pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution DPP.

They are facing a two count charge bothering on conspiracy and stealing preferred against them by the police.

When the defendants were arraigned yesterday , the prosecutor Godwin O. Osuyi, from the Legal department of Lagos state police command, told the court that the defendants and others now at large, had on June 24, 2015, at about 9.20 am, while armed with AK47, dynamites and other offensive weapons, robbed two banks, First Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc.

He further informed the court that during the robbery operation which lasted about two hours, the suspects carted away the total sum of N99.536 million.

Osuyi also alleged the robbers disposed the two banks of $2.750 USD, and €120 Euro, after blowing up the banks with dynamite.
The defendants’ pleas were not taken.

Meanwhile the prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in prisons custody, pending the time they will be properly arraigned before a competent court.

Consequently, magistrate, Olajuwon, ordered that the four robbery suspects be remanded in prisons custody, pending an advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, on the matter.

Olajuwon also ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward it to the DPP for legal advice, while she adjourned the matter till October 23., for mention.
