LAGOS—A BRT Bus driver, Olayinka John, 43, has been arraigned before an Oshodi Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly driving on public highway in a dangerous and reckless manner and causing the death of one Musa Abdulateef.
The accused, whose address is unknown, was said to have committed the alleged offence on Ikorodu Expressway at Shyllon Junction, Ilupeju area of Lagos.
John (accused) was arraigned by the police on a two-count charge of reckless and careless driving.
One of the charge read: “That you Olayinka John ‘m’ on June 8, 2015 at 10.00hrs Ikorodu Expressway at Shyllon Junction, Ilupeju Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial district being the driver in charge of BRT Bus with registration number AAA 04 XB Body No. T-017 drove same vehicle on the public highway in a dangerous and reckless manner and caused the death of one Musa Abdulateef.”
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, informed the court that the offence was punishable under Section 28 (1) Cap172 Vol. 7 of the road traffic law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
However, when the charge was read to the accused before Magistrate Akeem Fashola, he pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Fashola admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties who must have paid three years tax and own landed property in Lagos.
