The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, His Grace, Dr. Valerian Okeke has called on the Judiciary, to give priority to cases concerning the awaiting trials inmates, ATMs, in Onitsha prisons by giving the cases accelerated hearings as justice delayed is justice denied. Okeke said that it was unacceptable for the ATMs to remain in the custody much longer than their prison terms if they were eventually convicted for the offences for which they were remanded in custody.

Anambra–based mechanic fabricates N10m dredging equipment
AWKA — THE old spare parts market at Nkpor, near the commercial city of Onitsha, has virtually turned into a Mecca of sort following the completion of a dredging machine which cost about N10 million by a motor mechanic in the area, Mr. David Ezenwa. The equipment, which took five months to complete has been transported to Aguleri water-front in Anambra East local government area where it is expected to be put to use soon, Ezenwa’s workshop at No 5 Awgbu street, Nkpor was the cynosure of all eyes as people gathered to admire the equipment because of its size and sophistication.
Motorists want railway corporation to erect warning signs at crossings
Aba — Road users in Aba, Abia state are grumbling over the inability of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, to erect warning signs at railway crossings along major roads to avert possibilities of motorists being crushed by moving trains in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State. South East Voice investigations showed that there are no indicators to warn road users on the movement of trains at the Aba –Owerri; Okigwe, Ama Ogbonna and School roads railway crossings.
2015 National Spelling Bee winner represents Nigeria in America
Deafening cheers and applause enveloped the NECA hall, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Friday, May 8 as Ohuabunwa Onyinyechi of Cherry Field College, Jikwoyi, Abuja was declared the winner of the 2015 National Spelling Bee Competition, defeating 44 other finalists to clinch the star prize of a Virgin Atlantic return ticket to the 88th Scripps Spelling Bee Competition, USA, as well as a N200,000 cash gift from Beta Malt along with other goodies from Beta Malt and Indomie Noodles.
