By Daud Olatunji

ABEOKUTA—League of Registered Political Parties, LRPP, Ogun State chapter has warned against violence and thuggery ahead of this year general elections.

The league gave the warning ,yesterday ,shortly after its meeting held in Abeokuta, stressing that it had noticed the desperation of some political parties and individuals contesting for elective posts to win the Febrauary 2015 general elections at all cost.

The body in a communique signed by the Chairman, Apostle Adefemi Omoniyi warned that the country might be heading for a serious crisis that may lead to the prediction of America about Nigeria’s disintegration in 2015, if the trends continued unabated before the election.

“Hence, our appeal to political leaders, youths, women and those that will be contesting the February 2015 general elections to give peace a chance and allow sustainable political growth in Nigeria,” the statement said.

.“It is no more news that when elections are approaching, thugs are hired by politicians to foment trouble here and there. We are using this medium to appeal to politicians who might have it in mind to engage the services of political thugs to cause crisis before, during or after the elections to shelve the idea”, the communique stated

The group also advised the youths, not to make themselves available to be used as thugs, stressing that none of politicians who sponsor violence will ever allow their children to be tagged thugs

“Our youth should refuse to be lured into the criminal act of thuggery because of money. They should not be made agents of destruction and death. They are the future leaders of this great country and should. Protect their good names”.

However, the league has called on security operatives to live up to their expectation ,make professionalism their watchword and discharge their duties without fear or favour to any political party or individuals.
