OWERRI — A gubernatorial aspirant and former member of the National Assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, has expressed regret that Imo State has not witnessed good governance from 2007 till date.

Araraume made his feelings known, yesterday, while briefing the state Executive Council of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on his gubernatorial ambition.

“Imo has not made any progress since 2007 till date. There is no functional hospital in the state today. The state infrastructure is either dilapidated, comatose or simply dead,” Senator Araraume said.

While noting that experience could not be acquired overnight or purchased with money, Senator Araraume, however, said that the state had found itself in its current sorry situation because those charged with the responsibility of managing its affairs did not know the difference between public and private funds.

In his own speech, Deputy Director General of Araraume’s campaign organization, Chief Okey Ikoro, kicked against zoning arrangement in the state, adding that it “sadly throws up mediocrity.

“The state should feature those who have the capacity to perform, instead of applying zonal sentiment in the choice of a gubernatorial candidate,” Ikoro said.
He urged the PDP to place all the aspirants on the scale, check their antecedents and capabilities before coming up with a candidate that will fly the PDP flag in the state.
