Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Dr. Eugene Juwah has explained that the huge investment the commission was making into the Nigerian movie industry, was to oil its potent force in the projection of positive image of the country.
Juwah spoke at the third edition of Friends of Nollywood Award, Abuja chapter organized in honour of the NCC and others who have contributed to the growth of the industry.
The EVC said the commission’s attraction to Nollywood became more intense when it realized that it can leverage ICT opportunities to promote, and project the industry to greater digital heights for the benefit of the practitioners, and the socio-economic progress of the nation.
He said the relationship with Nollywood was actually consummated through a well- articulated partnership with NCC’s ICT training institute, the Digital Bridge, DBI, the Harvard University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Tech.
He said: “Many of you may be wondering how the telecoms regulator has become an active enthusiast of Nollywood.
“We have been showing interest in Nollywood because of its popularity, and its potent force in the projection of the positive image of our dear nation.”
