Ikechukwu Uche was sent off for Villarreal as they were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Real Betis in the Spanish La Liga on Sunday.
The 30-year-old came on as a substitute for Jeremy Perbet straight after the interval, but was given his marching orders in the 79th minute for a second bookable offence.
In a somewhat harsh decision, referee Ignacio Iglesias opted to dismiss Uche for a tackle despite the player winning the ball. The first caution was also handed out in similar circumstances.
Bruno Soriano scored from the spot to give the Yellow Submarines the lead in the 71st minute. However, Ruben Castro scored for the visitors in the 85th minute to ensure the spoils were split.
Nosa Igiebor did not feature for Betis as he is yet to shake off a knee injury.
