Jonathan promises massive infrastructural dev. across Nigeria

ABUJA –  President Goodluck Jonathan has said the administration was commitment to transform every part of the nation through constructions of massive infrastructure and institutional development.

Jonathan who made the remarks weekend while inspecting the Skills Acquisition Centre, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, said that no nation can develop without proper and adequate development of her manpower.

The President who expressed satisfaction on the level of work done on the Centre, being handled by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, declared that, “I am particularly happy with what I have seen today.”

“In fact, I commend the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs for a job well done,” Mr. President declared.

The Skills Acquisition Centre, billed for commissioning next month is one of the nine Skills Centres being built across the nine States of the Niger Delta by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs with a mandate to train youths in specialize trade, such as Oil & gas, Maritime and Entertainment industries.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs told newsmen shortly after conducting President Jonathan round the Centre that the Skills Acquisition Centre, Otuoke is ready and would be open for use in September this year.

He noted that Mr. President’s visit was in preparation for the commissioning of the project. He emphasized that Otuoke Skills Centre was built specifically to train youths particularly Niger Delta youths in oil & gas sector.

He stressed that at the end of the training, most of these youth would have acquired enough skills and knowledge to compete favourably with their counterparts as well as capacity that would qualify them for job placements in multinational oil companies operating in the region thereby eliminating the discriminatory attitude of these companies, while others in the same category would be self employed.

Similarly, Elder Godsday said that the Ministry has also concluded arrangement to train some youths from Offa, Kwara State in the art of block- making at the Skill Centre. He stated that this initiative will not only create employment for these youths but will reduced restiveness among them.

Orubebe said further that his Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding, MoU,  with a reputable firm in Ireland to train the youths stressing, that this would no doubt boost the Ministry’s capacity in training the youths in the identified sectors with a view to obtaining qualifications that will meet international standards.
