The euphoria was still high as Nigerians who had been starved of a near flawless performance by the Super Eagles in recent times besieged the Metropolitan Hotel camp of the team in Calabar, Saturday evening.

Although players and coaches were in their rooms, the hotel lobby was brimming with human traffic.

The waiters, reinforced with uniformed soldiers had a tough time manning the main entrance to the hotel  as journalists, relatives and fans of the players turned out in droves to either have a glimpse  of their heroes and perhaps, touch or simply gawk at them.

For the reporters, the situation was made tougher as the Eagles were reluctant to grant any interviews and preferred talking to their relatives or fans. One of them, Emmanuel Emenike bluntly told this reporter, “You know I can’t talk to you now, I have to talk to my manager first.”

Real Betis new boy,  Nosa Igiebor was, however, different.

Wearing a smile that encapsulated the mood of the evening, Igiebor said he was ready to talk and he spoke on his joy and the prospects of making it to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in his fledgling career. Excerpts:

How do you see your performance and contributions to the team’s success this evening?

I think for me, it is like a dream come true. For a young player like me to be at the Nations Cup for the first time, it will be wonderful and Nigerians are happy with the team and I am happy, I’m excited too. Everybody contributed to the success of the team; the players, the coaches, the NFF and all Nigerians who trooped out to encourage us and support is throughout the campaign.

What do you think the team has as a source of strength going forward, especially with the Nations Cup coming?

You all saw it today, the unity and the love among us. We go out there and work together. The strength in this team is the unity that prevails among us. We have no small boys or big boys as everybody sees the other as equal. Unity is our strength.

Which department of the present squad do you believe could be improved upon before the nations Cup?

Right now, I can’t say it is this or that department of the team. We played so well this evening and that has made it even more difficult for me to do a proper assessment.

How is your stay in Real Betis?

I have been there for barely a month now. Betis is a youthful side. For me I am happy neing a Netis player and I am sharing the dream of the team. We want to win everything. We want to win the La liga and the Champions League.

How are you looking forward to the game against Barcelona?

Everybody wants to play against Barcelona. They are definitely the best team in the world right now. I just wish my coach will select me for the match because these are the type of matches every player want to feature in.
