Asaba—THE task force set up by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State to check flooding has assured Deltans that it will take necessary measures to tackle the problem of flooding in major cities across the state. The task force has also threatened to demolish illegal structures blocking water channels.

Worried by the flood in Lagos State and other parts of the country, Governor Uduaghan, Tuesday, constituted an ad-hoc committee charged with the responsibility of tackling flooding in the state.

Chairman of the State Task Force on Control and Removal of Illegal Structures, Mr. Frank Omare, yesterday, led members of the task force on inspection tour of flooded areas to ascertain the level of work done by the company handling the drainage system in Asaba.

He frowned at the attitude of traders who block drainage systems in the town with refuse at Ogbe-Ogonogo market despite efforts of government.

He warned that the government will not fold its arm and watch people flout its order aimed at  improving the lives of the citizens, especially as it concerns opening up of drainage systems in the state.
