ITF tasks Jonathan on job creation

By Victor Ahiuma-Young

LAGOS – INTERNATIONAL Transport Federation, ITF, Women Committee for Nigeria and West Africa, weekend, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to devote more resources for job creation to combat the high rate of unemployment in the country, instead of wasting the nation’s resources on electioneering.

At an event it organised in Lagos to mark 2011 International Women Day, ITF Women Committee lamented the decay in the country’s amenities and infrastructure, urging President Jonathan to provide good and affordable schools, good hospitals well equipped with medical facilities, steady power supply and good road networks as dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

Addressing the gathering, chairperson of the committee, Mrs. Mary Akpan, lamented that “women suffer serious disadvantages including growing marginalisation, harassment, occupation/job professional discrimination, among others.”
