Minna – The convoy of Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, was on Wednesday evening, attacked by some irate youths in Kuta, headquarters of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
Kuta is believed to be one of the strongholds of All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, and the zone of its gubernatorial candidate who also fought the PDP hands down in the governorship election in 2007.
Four vehicles in the convoy including that of the deputy governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto, were smashed.
Vanguard gathered that trouble started shortly after the governor and his entourage had paid homage to the traditional ruler of the town.
As the entourage was leaving the palace, some of the irate youths who had laid ambush at strategic points outside the palace were said to be throwing stones at the vehicles in the convoy.
The governor’s vehicle was hit though, but that of his deputy and another could not escape the missile.
The three vehicles were immediately withdrawn from the convoy while that of the deputy governor was sent to Kaduna for immediate repairs.
It was gathered that five people, mainly youths had been arrested in connection with the attack and were said to be helping the police in their investigations.
At the campaign rally in Sarkin Pawa, headquarters of Munyan Local Government Area of the state, there was a mild drama as the town was thrown into confusion when people at the rally stormed out of the venue running for safety.
Sarkin Pawa is the next community to Suleja town where there was bomb blast during a similar rally early this month where many lives were lost and several others severely injured.
