Another shopping mall underway in Surulere

Smarting from the recent commissioning of the multi million Naira Gbaja Shopping Mall in the Surulere area of Lagos, the developer Messrs DHB Construction Limited is now planning to build another shopping mall in Lawanson, another part of Surulere. The new mall which construction is expected to commence in April, according to the Managing Director of DHB Construction Limited, Chief Hakeem Alobo Bakare, will be twice the size of Gbaja shopping mall. .

He disclosed that full business activities have begun at the Gbaja Shopping Mall after Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola inaugurated it recently.

Gbaja Shopping Mall is located in the heart of Surulere off Akerele Road and is easily accessible from the Taslim Balogun Stadium axis. The mall, which is the first of its kind in Surulere comes complete with a top-flight events’ centre, banking hall, traditional market arrangement of kee klamp shops and a shopping complex.

The construction of the mall was financed by Skye Bank Plc.. Chief Alobo-Bakare said the events’ centre is designed and executed to add pleasure to any gathering.

The parking spaces are well paved with interlocking stones. “We have about a hundred slots for parking,” the DHB Construction Ltd boss said.

“There is a borehole plant with huge storage tank that can hold 4000 litres of water and all facilities will be powered by a 500KVA generator in addition to public electricity. Individual event hosts or tenants or shop owners are not allowed to bring in their generators,” he said.

The complex has a void façade in its middle and a walkway and right in the middle of it are giant chandeliers, which provide day-lighting. Besides, the void gives clear view of people’s movement and activities on all floors.

There are a bank of toilet facilities, six on each floor and split equally for male and female users.

Gbaja mall is one of the several community projects supported by the Lagos State Government in its public, private initiative that is designed to bring governance close to the people as well as improve their lifestyle.
