The 2010 Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Miss Fiona Amuzie has rolled out strategies to assist victims of human trafficking and child labour through her pet project, Fiona Amuzie Organisation Against Trafficking in Persons and Child Labour (FOTIC).

Amuzie, while briefing journalists in Lagos on her maiden fundraising dinner, which will feature popular artistes and comedians such as Gordons, Iyanyan, Queen, Mr Prince, Waje, Chocolate Boys, Klint D Drunk among others said her choice to assist these Nigerians was not out of place as she had witnessed the height of child trafficking in the country.

Lamenting that the act was inhuman, she said the need to eradicate the menace informed the setting up of FOTIC.

She said human trafficking and child labour must be curbed. “The victims take to this mainly because of poverty and illiteracy, and I believe that if they are being given the chance, they would have a change of mind”

Amuzie stated that her project was to give hope and empower the victims, encourage them as well as get sponsorship from well – meaning Nigerians The event, billed for March 6th, 2011, at the Eko Hotel and Suites,is part of strategies, to raise funds to provide victims with necessary things to enable them live a fulfilled life.

It is also part of efforts aimed at discouraging and reducing the effect of trafficking in persons and child labour. Well-meaning Nigerians, corporate bodies and companies were urged to support the project – proceeds from which will be used to provide basic necessities of life such as food, clothing, shelter, working tools like sewing machines among others, for the victims.

Reiterating commitment to fight the practice, she called on all well-meaning persons to lend a hand to ensure the trade is discouraged in the country.
