Abuja – Chief Harry Akande, the former ANPP presidential aspirant, said on Monday that he had defected to the PDP to support President Goodluck Jonathan in nation building.
“After my meeting with the President I am happy to announce to you that I have moved to PDP the umbrella party, my movement takes immediate effect from today,” Akande told newsmen in Abuja.
He said that after much consultation with his supporters, he decided to resign from the ANPP where he was a founding member.
According to him, he wants a national party where everyone can aspire to render services for the development of the country.
“It is unfortunate that I left the party, my objective in politics was not met. I wanted a national party where everyone can aspire to render services for the benefit of mankind.
“I have been in ANPP for 12 years, I have been in the wilderness and I cannot change the policy of the party.”
The former ANPP chieftain said he joined politics to better the lives of the common man and not for money, expressing his readiness to work with the President to move the country forward.
“I saw in Jonathan a man of God and we need a God-fearing man who will bring solution to this country and my desire in PDP is because I feel I have a lot to contribute in this country,” he said
He urged progressive parties to form an alliance as a way of having strong opposition.
“The progressives find it difficult to come together to even form a strong alliance, if all the opposition can come together to fight then we can have a strong opposition party,” Akande stated.
