NATIONAL Chairman of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that the party would accept defeat in a free and fair election, adding, however, that with the situation of things in the country, his party was going to form the next Federal Government.
In an interactive session with newsmen in Awka, Anambra State, Onu noted that Nigerians had experienced much hardship since 1999, which, he blamed on the bad governance inflicted on the nation by a rival political party.
“If we lose in a free and fair election next year, we will accept defeat, but we will not accept any act of rigging. It is obvious that many people have lost confidence in the electoral system and I do not blame them because of what was happening in the past.
“Many Nigerians are dying in silence due to bad governance and that is what ANPP intends to change when it forms the next government. Our country is rich, yet we have the highest concentration of poor people.
“That a political party in government cannot perform does not mean that other political parties cannot do better and that is why we are asking Nigerians to try ANPP to enthrone good governance in the country,” he added.
He, however, appealed to ANPP members nationwide to put behind them events of the past which made some members to leave the party.
