ICPC arrests Edo lawmaker

THE member representing Orhionmwon (II) constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Etinosa Ogbeiwi, was arrested, last Thursday, by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) in connection with the execution of the N8.5million Oben-Geregu Pipeline Project in Orhionmwon local government council of the state.

Though the Action Congress of Nigeria (AC) lawmaker was granted bail at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, he was asked to report to the commission on a weekly basis.

It was learnt that officials of the commission trailed him for two days in Benin before effecting his arrest in a private apartment, last Thursday.

His arrest, it was learnt was sequel to a petition to the commission by the Orhionmwon Youth Congress.
The petitioners had alleged that after receiving of N8.5 million on behalf of the communities, the lawmaker allegedly appropriated N2.5million to himself under the guise that it was meant for personal expenses he had incurred during the negotiations with the Nigeria Gas Company, NGC on behalf of the communities.

ICPC resident consultant on media, Folu Olamiti, who confirmed the arrest, explained that the lawmaker was quizzed following the petition but was granted bail.
