Para-powerlifting federation perfecting athletes’ training ahead Olympics – Technical Director

Lagos – The Nigeria Para-PowerLifting Federation (NPPF) says it is perfecting the training of its athletes to make Nigeria proud at the Rio Paralympics in Brazil.

The power-lifters are presently in camp in Abuja ahead of the quadrennial games, scheduled to hold from Sept. 7 to Sept. 18.

Technical Director of the federation, Samuel Ekeoma, told NAN that the federation had designed a training plan aimed at enhancing the performance of the athletes ahead of the event.

“We are perfecting our training now; hopefully we will make Nigeria proud in Paralympics.

“As a federation, we have tried to map out strategies to ensure that athletes are well train and well focus.

“We have created female department headed by a female coach, so everybody is now concentrating on a particular angle so that the thing will not be so tedious.’’

He added that athletes were responding well in training in a bid to surpass the nation’s previous performance at the games.

NAN further reports that Nigerian para-powerlifters won six gold, five silver and two bronze medals at the London 2012 Olympics.
