Saving the Nigeria Traffic Warden Service
Under the leadership of former Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, age-long discriminatory practices were discovered in the Nigeria Police Force by our leadership in the course of our advocacy activities. The discriminatory practices were administrative and structural in nature. They have existed since 1975 with a structural code name: the Nigeria Traffic Warden Service (TWS) Decree (Act) of 1975. This was also incorporated into Sections 59 to 69 of the Nigeria Police Force Act of 2004 (NPF Ordinance of 1930).
Fashola charges corps members on positive impact
Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN, has urged corps members deployed to Lagos State to leave behind a positive impact at the expiration of their service year.
He gave this charge during the swearing-In ceremony held at the NYSC orientation camp, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.
He said: “As agents of change and development, the state is looking up to you for physical transformation and technological ideas that will add to the socio-economic development in our education sector.” Also, he pointed out that attention of corps members are needed in poverty eradication, rural health and in combating the HIV/AIDS pandemic as well as other ills and diseases bedeviling the society.

Etisalat shortlists for 2014 Etisalat Prize for Literature
In furtherance of the search for Africa’s best début fiction writer for 2014, Etisalat Nigeria has announced a shortlist of three writers.
The shortlisted writers and their works are Nadia Davids, An Imperfect Blessing published by Random House Struik-Umuzi; Chinelo Okparanta’s Happiness Like Water published by Granta Publication and Songeziwe Mahlangu, Penumbra published by Kwela Books, Imprint of NB Publishers.
MTN Foundation celebrates academic excellence, gives scholarships to 1,372 students
The joy of 1,372 students across the country knew no bounds as MTN Foundation presented scholarship awards to them. In the formal presentation of scholarship awardees to the world held at the National Theatre, Lagos, the MTN Foundation Chairman, Ambasssador Hamzat Ahmadu said: “Overall, the Foundation has awarded scholarships to 1,205 high performing science and technology students while 167 brilliant, visually impaired students have also received scholarships this year.”
