Captain Sam Ewang (retd) was, at different times, military administrator of Ogun and Rivers states. He vied to be Akwa Ibom State governor on the platform of the All Nigerian People’s Party, ANPP, before the merger of some opposition political parties that gave birth to the All Progressives Congress (APC). During the last general elections, he also aspired for the Akwa Ibom governorship position on the platform of the APC.
