The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted Nigerians and the international community to the massive clampdown on the party’s leaders as well as journalists during Saturday’s ongoing governorship election in Ekiti state.

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Saturday commended INEC for introducing innovations which would eliminate delays in the voting process as well as eradicate irregularities during elections.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Otunba Niyi Adebayo has said that the alleged arrest of its leaders will not intimidate the party.

The former governor said this while addressing newsmen, after accreditation at Iyin ward 8 in Irepodun-Ifelodun local government area.

Governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele has said that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC, had prevailed him to step down.

Ekiti voters turned out en mass on Saturday for accreditation as the state’s governorship election got under way amidst tight security.

Eighteen (18) political parties are today participating in the Ekiti State governorship election across 16 local government areas of the state.

Electioneering campaigns were halted about 24 hours ago in accordance with the 2010 Electoral Act. Today the electorate in the state are expected to cast their votes for candidates of the choice.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has deployed an Assistant Inspector-General of Police and five Commissioners of Police to Ekiti to supervise security arrangements for Saturday’s governorship election.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by CSP Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer.

FOR the second term in a week, the Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele has said he is not contemplating stepping down for any other candidate in the state.

The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has compelled the 57 Local Councils in the state to “contribute N25 million each, from their May, 2014 Federal allocations or borrow from banks in order to support the governorship re-election of Kayode Fayemi.
