As the residents of Ekiti state go to the polls today to elect their governor out of the 35 governorship candidates, the two leading political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, were yesterday engaged in a battle of the survival of the fittest as both parties showered prospective voters with cash.

Today, 667,064 eligible voters who have collected their PVCs out of 913, 334 registered voters are expected to file out across the 2,195 polling units spread across 177 wards in 16 local government areas of Ekiti State to elect a governor who would be saddled with the mandate of running the state for the next four years. 

ALTHOUGH tomorrow’s governorship election will be contested by 35 political parties, the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and main opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC, are obviously the front runners.

Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, says anything short of credible conduct of the Ekiti governorship election on Saturday would not be acceptable.

The campaign for Saturday’s  governorship elections in Ekiti State took a dramatic turn yesterday as security operatives who blocked the entrance to Government House, Ado-Ekiti, also fired tear-gas at the governor and his supporters.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of  Operations,  Mr Habilal Joshak,  has assured residents of Ekiti of a level playing ground during Saturday’s governorship election.
