A round-table parley with Makoko residents would yield good results – Barr Phil Nneji
Concerned about the plight of residents of popular Lagos slum, Makoko, a group of women under the aegis of Gender & Child Care Advancement Initiative-GCCAI, went to the community with some gift items. In this interview with Vista Woman at the event, Barr.(Mrs.) Phil Nneji, Executive Director, GCCAI, debunks the claim that giving aids to people in such communities makes them lazy, and also calls on government to consider having a round table discussion on a viable way forward for Makoko instead of a one-sided decision like the demolition exercise with which the community was threatened with months ago.
TOURISM: Giving it an attractive image
I must confess that I was highly surprised to learn from a colleague that one-way airfare from Lagos to Abuja is thirty thousand naira (N30,00). It seemed outrageous to me.
Xmas hampers & the Nigerian factor
Whatever your circumstances, Christmas invokes some excitement, the degree depending on how many Christmases you’ve celebrated. Naturally, the young are more excited than the more mature people because they look forward to having a good time of foods and drinks and entertainment, more than usual.

NIGERIA: Back in the ranks of the malnourished?
When I saw the headline ’22m malnourished in Nigeria, others’’, my reaction was ‘Not Again!’. Throughout our civil war, and many years after it ended, whenever some foreign media houses wrote anything on Nigeria, they would publish pictures of badly malnourished people, especially children with Kwashiokor, along with the news item.
Reasons for misdiagnosis of Autism in Nigeria
Having been at Patricks since 2006, I would say it’s been very fascinating working with children with special needs, especially those with autism. I never knew anything about Autism even though I knew about children with Asperger syndrome, until I got an appointment with Patricks.

Leadership: Assess performance with a mirror
The two things which those of us who have to watch our weight dislike intensely are, the weighing scale and the mirror. With the former, you may say that it is faulty, and that the figure it shows is not your actual weight, and you’re much lighter than that.
Dating? Show some class
If you want to know the mind of young people, listen to new generation FM stations; particularly those programmes where they invite listeners’ views on a particular subject/story.

Re: Nigeria @ 52
It’s sad to note that at 52, we’re still at the crawling stage of life. It wasn’t those who wrote in here to react to my piece on the matter who feel this way, but pieces published in other Nigerian newspapers and magazines reflected this too.

We’re empowering girls for IT devt – Oreoluwa Somolu
With technology pervading every facet of human life, there’s the urgent need for women and girls, who’ve been handicapped in this area, to acquire much knowledge. According to statistics, they comprise a larger percentage of Nigeria’s population, so, Nigeria’s move to becoming an IT-compliant nation may be frustrated unless these groups are catered for.
