The Middle East : Hot bed of problems
THE Middle East is the most geopolitically sensitive area of the world, with a population comprising of mostly poor people, and considerable wealth in the hands of few. To meet its demands for workforce, the area engages in the import of poor workers mainly from India, Bangladesh and Nigeria.
Polio, Lassa and Yellow Fever: Where is the Political will?
SINCE the conception of Nigeria as an independent country, it has struggled with a number of deadly viruses and diseases. The most prominent and reoccurring have been Polio, Lassa fever and Yellow fever. These three have plagued parts of the country for many years and appear sporadically, peaking and dipping throughout the country’s history.
African economic redemption: Chimera or hope?
THE West has left us with the template for economic growth and worldwide domination: the franchise system or the selling and use of patents, symbols, etc. in short, branding. McDonald, Pepsi Coke, Coca-Cola, 7UP, KFC, Dominos are brands well known which people buy, so also is General Electric, Toyota, etc.
The Koyi Ugboma ballroom party
THE other day, Dr. Koyi Ugboma celebrated his 70th birthday. He is married with children. He was born in Warri, where no one takes last. Warri taught him his street smarts which have kept him in good stead since birth.
Sports and politics:Nigeria, Russia, US and North Korea (2)

Sports and politics:Nigeria, Russia, US and North Korea (1)
THE dominance of the West in communications cannot be over-emphasised. As we read what the West says about Russia, we all need to do so with a large dose of salt. The United States has been gripped by Russo phobia for a very long time.
Political party manifestos: Nigeria, UK and US (2)
CONSERVATIVE Party Manifesto aims at lower Immigration, raise tax-free personal allowance, increases National Health Service, NHS funding. Middle-class pensioners would not be taxed if assets are below £100,000. The Conservative Government would ban all new selective schools and build 100 new free schools.
Political party manifestos: Nigeria, UK and US
THE party is committed to building a qualitatively better society based on the principle of democracy, human rights and moral justice under the rule of law. It would restructure Nigeria for true federalism: devolution of powers to the states and local governments in an indivisible Nigeria that respects geopolitical balancing and rotation of power at all levels of government.
Nine years a boy in Enugu
THE older you become the more you learn about your children especially if you were a strict parent and your children can now talk to you. In Nigeria, the father is generally the enforcer and the mother is the appeaser, the one with compassionate understanding.
National Youths Service Corps: A re-organisation
The original concept was to instill discipline among young graduates. The graduates would then do community work and pass on their acquired discipline to the youths and others they meet. Our youths would be burning with the feverof national interest, espousing ideas which their training would foster. Like yeast to bread this nationalism would swell the bread of Nigeria, pushing the nation beyond self and tribe. This was why Youth Corpers were posted outside their states to learn about other cultures and impress on those cultures the overwhelming singularity of Nigerianess. Our future leaders would be well grounded in the concept and life of Nigerianess over and above destructive ethnicity. I may be overstating the aims but I think that, by and large, my characterisation is true.
Gen. Shehu Yar’Adua: 20th anniversary of his murder
GENERAL Shehu Yar’adua was a wonderful man who was cut down in his prime. I have no doubt that he would have made an excellent President of Nigeria. He died a true martyr for Nigeria.
Women, sex and power (2)
PRESIDENT Clinton was partly saved by the admitted and open anger of Hillary Clinton. But she forgave him.
Women, sex and power
HARVEY Weinstein has denied all nonconsensual sex. But he seems to be accused of “sexual assault and inappropriate sexual behaviour”. What are we talking about? And he is ostracised not really for making love or having sex with these accusers but for masturbating in front of some, wearing a bathrobe, etc.
Biometrics, BVN and Nigeria
THE introduction of Biometric identification was to stop different kinds of fraud. There were too many fictitious bank accounts; inactive bank accounts are raided by the employees. To stop this, the bank instituted a regime of dormant accounts.
Airlines, Aviation, Airways : What does the Minister of Aviation do?
There are no Nigerians working with the Chinese there, leaving us with the scepter that any breakdown will still have to be fixed by China
