A HIGH powered delegation of Nigeria Customs Service,NCS, led by the Comptroller-General Dikko Abdullahi is now in Brussels for the 19th Council Session of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), which kicks off this week in the Belgian capital.

According to the Public Relations Officer of NCS, Mr Wale Adeniyi, “ the WCO  is the highest decision-making organ which meets once in a year Abdullahi’s attendance at the Council is his first, since his assumption of office last August. The Session will be preceded by a meeting of the WCO Policy Commission.
Adeniyi who made this known to Customswatch said, “The Session will also mark the inauguration of the new council of the Organisation, and the ascension of Abdullahi as its new Vice-chairman for the next one year. This follows his election as the new Chairman of the West and Central African sub-region during the last WCO sub-regional meeting held in Bamako, Mali, last April

Expected to dominate discussions at the Council meeting are on-going efforts by Customs administrations to adequately respond to the challenges of the Global Economic Meltdown and Capacity Building among Customs personnel.

The council Session will also feature elections to fill up vacant positions in the Directorates of Capacity Building and Tariff and Trade. South-Africa and Togo are the only African Countries fielding candidates for the top jobs.

Other members of the Nigerian delegation include Mrs Adegoke, Deputy Comptroller-General; Daniel Jatau, Julius Nwagwu and Tahir Musa, Assistant Comptrollers-General and Bello Liman, Comptroller in the Comptroller-General’s Office.
