Nigerian football clubs have earned no less than the sum of N5 billion from the transfer of players both from within the domestic and to the foreign leagues in 10 months.

The Manager, Transfer Matching System (TMS) of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Nasir Jubril who spoke to journalists at the sidelines of the ongoing Domestic Transfer Matching System (DTMS) workshop yesterday in Abuja said the figure represents what the various clubs have received from the movement of their players in the period under review.

“In the last 10 months, that is between January and October this year, a cash inflow of about N5 billion has accrued to the clubs in Nigeria from the transfer of players. For instance, if a player is bought for say two or three  million pounds, when you multiply that with the exchange rate you can imagine what we are talking about.”

Jubril, while explaining the importance of the workshop, said it aims to fully educate the managers of the 20 Nigerian Premier League (NPL) clubs as well as the 32 plying their trade in the lower Nigerian National League (NNL).

He also explained that the world football governing body, FIFA has now made it mandatory for every football player in the world to be registered by their federations, adding that such has made the transfer of players either from one country to another or one club to the other stress free.
